Three Dollars a Day
For years, at the beginning of Lent I decided that I would do something for other people each day-whether it be giving someone a compliment or doing a good deed. As I have gotten older, I've come to appreciate the "giving something up" component. After all, isn't a major purpose of Lent to reflect on how Jesus gave his own life? However, I still feel that what I give up should benefit the community at large. Every day, I spend at least three dollars-whether it be on a cup of coffee or an ATM withdrawal fee. Instead of spending those unnecessary dollars, I pledge to give three dollars a day to a charity for every day of the Lenten season. Each day, I will post a new charity on this website, and as a community, we will come together to donate to this charity. Let's live out the true message that we are given-to love and serve all those who are in need. To get involved: 1) Check here every day to see what the charity of the day is. 2) Contribute $3 to that charity online or via snail mail. If even just 100 people join in our mission, those charities will receive an additional $300 each day. 3) "Like" our facebook page, so that others can get involved. 4) Feel free to email me suggestions for the charity of the day at [email protected].
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in Three Dollars a Day. I feel both humbled and accomplished from this project. I'll be continuing this tradition every year, so look for announcements in the weeks leading up to Lent next year.
